Copersucar-Fittipaldi
Hi. Just a quick note to say that I've got an article on the Copersucar sponsored Fittipaldi Automotive motor racing team set up by double Formula One world champion Emerson Fittipaldi and his brother Wilson undergoing Peer Review at present. If anyone wants to give a more Brazilian perspective on the only Brazilian team ever to compete in the World Championship, please see here. Thanks. 4u1e

Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:33, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Greetings, I just wanted to let you know that I reserved a spot for Project Mercosur. It is basically a wikiproject on Mercosur and the countries that are part of it. Anyone interested please join, there's plenty of work to do. --Wesborland 23:56, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
WPMILHIST
A discussion is going on at WikiProject military history whether or not a South American military history task force should be created. The suggestion is currently lacking support but if you are intrested in the topic could you please go to WikiProject Military History's talk page and say you are intrested and are willing to support the taskforce so it can be created. Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Manual of style
- I would like to suggest the creation of a Manual of Style for Portugal/Brazil/portuguese related subjects. This should include a simple but consistent set of rules concerning translations, place names, family names and such. your input is welcome. I think it should include things like not translating portuguese place names (Rio de Janeiro samba stadium) and keeping portuguese names in proper order (president Da Silva) among other things. I think it would improve the general presence of Portuguese/Brazilian subjects on wikipedia. Please contrinute to the discussion here: Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Portuguese-related articles) Galf 14:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Can somebody please direct me to a list of all Brazil-related categories? A possible task
I am entertaining (but have taken no steps so far) the possibility of creating an entry referring to the Pope's visit to Brazil — or maybe a single article about all Papal visits, with chapters for each visit (4 in total: 3 by John Paul II and the currently ongoing visit by Benedict XVI), since the entry at the List of Pope Benedict XVI's travels is rather small (and rightfully so, since it would be too much to include too many details in such a general list). Particularly, the current visit by Benedict XVI would be the easiest to work on, since it is current, making information and even usable images easier to find (now, as opposed to trying to put this together two years from now, for instance). Thoughts? Redux 23:47, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Santa Catarina historical maps
I could find no account in the relevant articles (or in the Portuguese Wiki, for that matter) of how the expansion east of the state of Santa Catarina happened sometime at the turn of the last century (compare 1889 and 1990). It would be much appreciated if someone cleared this up. Cheers, Albrecht 05:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Rio de Janeiro
Hi there, fellows. I need your opinion regarding Rio de Janeiro. User:João Felipe C.S made recent changes which I think was simply flooding the article with images. So I rearranged them in a consistent way. To my surprise, my version had more images than João Felipe's version, therefore the problem it's in the way he places images. Could you please take a look and add your thoughts? Thank you. —Lesfer (t/c/@) 14:34, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Could someone who knows something about Brazilian society have a look at Allegations of Brazilian apartheid? Should the article exist at all? —Ashley Y 21:59, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- While I am not a specialist (History teacher, not Sociologist) I think the article merits to exist because there is indeed a very marked social problem in Brazil, which is interpreted by some as akin to an apartheid. As a Brazilian I can testify that these allegations are well-known here and quite often discussed in politics and the media. We Brazilians, as a whole, do not deny the problem and the term employed here is not taken as a slur.jggouvea 22:09, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- That seems to be the consensus of the references provided in the article. Should the article be renamed "Social apartheid in Brazil" or somesuch, rather than "Allegations of..."? —Ashley Y 06:49, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Can an user manipulate Brazil article?
Since user João Felipe C.S started to manipulate the Brazil article, it lost all its credibility. The pictures posted by him do not represent Brazil in anything. I already argued here that he is trying to sell a false idea that Brazil is a copy of Northern Europe, full of blond girls walking in high-tech cities with the best education system in the world, no violence or poverty. Many users already tried to change the pictures or include new ones, but João Felipe C.S revertes them all with no justification. Can an user control what people post in an article? Why can only he post there? To me this is vandalism and João Felipe C.S should be blocked from Wikipedia. Opinoso 01:51, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- I can see you are both very committed to your ideas about how the Brazil article should reflect the country. I think in some ways, both of you are right, but you and João Felipe C.S need to work together to express a shared vision of what it means to be Brazilian. There are blonde, blue-eyed Brazilians, just as there are Afro-Brazilians. There is also a sizeable Japanese-Brazilian population. They're all Brazilian and all should be reflected to some degree. Please, work together on this together, and no, I don't think either one of you should be blocked. What amazed me about Brazil while I lived there is how races are not divided the way they are in the United States. Let's not be divided here. I hope that some day race is not even a major issue; I hope one day we'll just see people, not colors. Corvokarasu 04:05, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Cansei needs your help
The article Cansei (Movimento Cívico pelo Direito dos Brasileiros) is very short. Please help to improve this article. (Please remember that everything needs to be NPOV and have good cites.) - Also, the section "Personalities" of this article lists many Brazilian celebrities who are currently redlinks. We either need to make new articles for these people, or (careful!) to find existing Wikipedia articles for these people with different titles and make the redlinks redirect to them. Thanks, all! -- Writtenonsand 13:05, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Trio Elétrico
We need some opinions about "Trio Elétrico".
We currently have a page at Trio Elétrico. Wikipedia style is usually to capitalize only the first word of the title, unless there is some reason not to (See Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Lowercase_second_and_subsequent_words_in_titles.)
For example, Belo Horizonte is correct. Belo horizonte would be wrong.
Should we move this article to Trio elétrico, or is Trio Elétrico better? -- Writtenonsand 13:21, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Nelson Rodrigues
In the article on Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues his first name is written with an accent on the 'e' (i.e., Nélson). As far as I can tell, Rodrigues never used this spelling in any of his many works, and he is referred to in print, be it in academia or the press, as 'Nelson Rodrigues,' without the accent. Unsure of how to change this because when users type 'Nelson Rodrigues' it is redirected to 'Nélson Rodrigues' AlexCollett (talk) 21:39, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
São Cristóvão
In the article about São Cristóvão, a city of the State of Sergipe, the following text, about economy is completely wrong: "Economy The city is a shipping port, and its main industries are sugar milling and distilling" The city is not a shipping port and one of the reasons for the changing of the State Capital to Aracaju was cause there was no big port at São Cristóvão. And the sugar cane activities finished about 1940. Article in need of assistance
Hello. In addressing copyright concerns listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems, I found that the article Porto Alegre was tagged for extensive copyright violation, primarily from this site. Although the tag was displayed near the bulk of the violating material until it was removed without explanation on June 14th, the material was not revised. The copyrighted text has been removed, along with other copyright violations introduced by the same IP contributor on the same day (in June 2007). (See diff.) Copyright is no longer a concern, but the removal of text has unbalanced the images on that article badly. I've tagged it for image clean-up, but wanted to make a note of it here in case any of you have a better eye for lay-out and design than I do. It seemed particularly like a good idea since the article is tagged as "top" importance for your project. It might also be possible for somebody with more familiarity with the topic to rewrite the information in his or her own words so that the information can be included without copyright concern. Thanks for any assistance anyone may care to provide. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:32, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
I came across this article via a spelling error. It seems that the entire article is unsourced and editors are adding information willy-nilly. It could use some expert attention - not to mention, some grammatical clean-up as well. Tudo bem! -- Levine2112 discuss 02:47, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Prata (Minas Gerais)
Good Morning! I´d like to have the page I had created (and which had been taken off by an editor) about Prata (Minas Gerais). I´m not able to create it by myself so I need some help to do it. The importance of the municipality is specially caused by the discovery of fossils of the biggest dinosaur found in Brazil (you may confirm it looking for Maxakalisaurus topai in English or Portuguese)and still remains many other discoveries at that region. If anyone could help following the page Prata(Minas Gerais)in portugues I´d be very glad. Below I´m leaving the translation I´ve done. The page Prata (Minas Gerais) does exist but, as I said, has anything written cause it was erased. Thank you for you help!Katia Teixeira (talk) 15:44, 27 June 2008 (UTC) Prata – Minas Gerais Prata is a Brazilian municipal district located in the State of Minas Gerais. The city (bigger local authority in territorial extension of the Mineiro Triângulo) is situated to the edges of the BR-153 (Transbrasiliana), in the geographical centre of that important region. With the latitude of 19°18 ' 27 " south and longitude of 48°55 ' 22 " west, being to an altitude of 631 meters. Prata´s predominant climate is the semi-wet tropical, with summer rains and winter drought. The tropical climate of altitude is present in the divisor of waters between the rivers Tejuco and of the Prata, in the east of the municipal district, where the altitudes exceed the 800 m. The middle annual Temperature in the city is of 24ºC, least of 7ºC in the autumn and maxim of 40ºC in the spring. Middle annual Pluviosidade of 1.500mm. Relief and Vegetation The relief is sedimentary Plateau middling dissected in most, residual reliefs to west and fluvial plain to east. Maximum altitude: 866 m - local: Plain of the Silver (I exalt east of the municipal district in the boundary with Veríssimo). Minimum altitude: 492 m - local: Rio Verde or Feio (he/she spies with Campina Verde). The vegetation is the Savannah and tropical forest. Economical activities: Livestock (bovine, pig), Agriculture (cane of sugar, orange, soy and pineapple), Industry (dairy products, nutritious, chemistry, wood for pencil production, transformation), reforestation (pinus, eucalyptus and rubber tree). In this municipal district there were located fossils of the biggest dinosaur found in Brazil, what lived there are more than 80 million years in the region of Serra da Boa Vista, distant one around 40 km of Prata, which scientific name was called of Maxakalisaurus topai, after popular vote, it is known as DINOPRATA, the retort of the titanossauro (got on resin), with around 13 meters of length, is exposed in the Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro since the 28 of August of 2006.

Over 10 years ago, GOLDBERG et al. (1995) have reported the occurrence of dinosaur remains in outcrops of the Adamantina Formation at the Serra da Boa Vista, situatedon the Campina Verde - Prata road, some 45km west to the Prata town, Minas Gerais State (Fig.1). Four field seasons (1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002) were organized by the Paleovertebrate Sector of the Museu Nacional and resulted in the recovery of a medium sized titanosaur sauropod. This specimen was briefly mentioned in the literature. (HENRIQUES et al., 1998; HENRIQUES et al., 2002) and is fully described here. Maxakalisaurus topai was found in an area of 40m² in a fine to medium grained reddish sandstone above a thin conglomeratic layer. Sedimentological studies indicate that those rocks were formed in a fluvial depositional environment where semi-arid condition, with dry and wet alternate periods predominated (GOLDBERG & GARCIA,2000). Fossils were not collected inadjacent areas. The assemblage comprises disarticulated bones, but the cervicals and three caudals were found partially articulated. Among the recovered elements are an incomplete jaw with the last five preserved alveoli, the first four of which still bearing teeth, sternal plates, vertebrae, transverse processes, chevrons, ribs and limb bones.Except for two extra sternal plates, and a distal end of a right scapula, that belong to a second animal attributed to Maxakalisaurus topai, and one caudal vertebra that may or may not pertain tothis species (see discussion), the bones recovered were closely associated. In the lack of more evidence, we consider those bones as belonging to the same individual(MN 5013-V). As far as comparison is possible, there is no size discrepancy among the recovered elements. Some isolated vertebral centra and neural arches suggest that this was a still young animal at time of death, with bones relatively more fragile. Maxakalisaurus topai bones were recovered along with several isolated theropod and crocodylomorph teeth, turtle elements and some small non-dinosaurian hollow bones. Bioturbation is present in several levels, sometimes in close connection with the dinosaur elements.Type species – Maxakalisaurus topai new species, type by monotypy. Etymology – The generic name is formed by Maxakali, from one of the Macro-jê stock language, honoring the Maxakali ethnic group that is present in the Minas Gerais State where this dinosaur was found, and saurus, which is the Greek word for lizard, commonly assigned to fossil reptiles. Articles flagged for cleanup
Currently, 1170 of the articles assigned to this project, or 11.9%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 18 June 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subsribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles. Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Royce Gracie pronunciation
An anon removed "pronounced Hoyce Gracie" from the Royce Gracie article yesterday (diff). He/she said "Portuguese is m native language and I can guarantee his name is not pronounced as Hoyce . In portuguese, the sound of "R" in the beginning of a word is the same as in german "ch" and spanish "j". I was under the impression "Hoyce" was pretty close. Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Brazil
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7. We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations. A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible. We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Help request: 705 Brazil-related articles needing geographical coordinates
Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Brazil, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Brazil, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added. The articles in question are listed in Category:Brazil articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:
- Church of Saint Francis of Assisi (Ouro Preto)
- Chuvisca
- Divino, Minas Gerais
- Grande River
- Guabiju
- Paranã River
- Roosevelt River
...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 705 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.
Why add coordinates?
By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.
How can I do it?
The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Please let me know if this is useful, or if you have any questions! -- The Anome (talk) 09:47, 24 October 2008 (UTC) I want to improve this portal but why is this portal named the way it is ? A good record chart? Anywhere?
The Brazil Hot 100 has been listed on WP:BADCHARTS, which means that eventually every reference to it will be deleted from Wikipedia. I would much rather have a valid chart to replace it with ... there seem to be about 50 songs that only charted on the Hot 100 Brazil, which means that if I delete the chart from the article, I have to take away the article, too. Unfortunately, I can't find a single good Brazilian chart that meets the requirements laid down in WP:RS and WP:Record charts. In short, it:
- Has to be traceable to some reputable organisation.
- Has to incorporate reports from multiple vendors (so no charts by single radio stations, single networks, single stores, MTV, VH1, iTunes)
- Should have some kind of archive. This isn't required by either guideline, but it's the only practical thing. If there is no archive, I can't look up the numbers to insert in the articles.
I'm leaving the Brazilian songs for last, but I should be getting to them soon. I hope someone can suggest a replacement before then.—Kww(talk) 19:12, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Question about categories
User:Livna-Maor is claiming that WikiProject Brazil is not using templates on talk-pages to track categories. I find it very odd since there are a whole lot of categories tagged, but I thought I'd check here before reverting. Is this something you have discussed or something he is doing on his own? Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 21:15, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- No they aren't used, if you look most of the templates were added by a bot, not a user. JoshRhi (talk) 21:32, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- It's obvious that the project at some point wanted categories included (just look at the assesment instructions) so whether a bot or an editor added the tags isn't relevant. If this was a group decision I'd be happy to help delete the tags, but I see no trace of such a discussion. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 21:43, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- They have never been usefull to this Wikiproject, and this project has had a backlog of thousands of pages for years, it will be good to finally cut it down. JoshRhi (talk) 21:53, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know what your problem here is, but these pages are useless, and were being deleted steadily, you're the only person who has taken objection and you aren't even part of this Wikiproject! JoshRhi (talk) 21:55, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

"Culture" section
Someone added a section of "Culture" to many articles on Brazilian cities, all of them containing the same text and picture. It can be considered a nice addition, but (no offense to the editor) I think it is quite ridiculous to make it sound like Festa Junina and Carnaval are the same in all Brazilian cities. Some small but significant differences may occur. I did some cleanup in a couple of articles, but I don't know how to really improve the sections by adding regional information, and I don't want to simply erase all of them instead of making them better. Rede Globo
The Rede Globo article needs a lot of work in History section.
- NPOV balancing about early years there are serious left-wing pov pushing there.
- The Globo Standard Quality idealized by Walter Clark that pushed brazilian tv to international standards.
- The influence on brazilian society its cultural hegemony as a de facto mainstream media in Brazil.
- The close relationship with japanese companies such as NEC and Sony [1] the fact that Sony Corporation developed an exclusive portable VT system is worth noting.

"Brazilian names" needs own article
Although we have many articles on names in different countries (see Given_name#By_culture), we apparently don't have an article on Brazilian names. Brazilian name redirects to Portuguese name. GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing!
